A Couple Of Useful Steps About Baby Photography

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Photography is a good way to remember all the different stages in your life. When your children go to one grade to the next, when you marry the one you love, buy a new house, or just to give a viewpoint of the everyday instances throughout the year. The important moments, or the ones that just invoke mild interest, a picture is a landmark and one of the most important of those landmarks is the birth of a child.

Babies are the most popular targets for photos and unfortunately the most difficult to capture on film. You need a lot of skill and patience in order to get a successful baby shot. One thing that you see often in such photos is red eye. Many people think that in order to capture everything well on film that they need to use a flash. This isn’t the case. In terms of babies, natural light is better than bright, glaring, artificial light.

Especially since natural light doesn’t give the baby those dreaded red eyes that so often ruin a good picture. So try using the light coming through the window or just take the picture outdoors, either way it makes a huge difference.

However if you can’t avoid red eye a lot of cameras have a red eye reduction function and if yours does not there is free baby photography software is available on the internet that can fix the problem for you. Another common issue is the blurring of images.

Babies are usually hard to control, especially when you want them to be still for a photo that they don’t really want to take. A solution is the use of a high iso speed camera along with a big aperture. With the two combined you can freeze moments that would have been lost before. Keep in mind that your background should be kept as simple as possible.

That means that backgrounds with too many things going on can overshadow your subject. To avoid that you can either zoom in or move closer to your baby. You can also keep them dressed in light, solid-colored clothes because patterns and ‘heavy’ colors can distort the baby’s face and eyes. Too much color, whether on your baby or off is bad for the overall image and you should work to avoid it.

Your main focus is your baby and they are often interesting enough on their own that if you need props or extra additions, they can be simple and few. When taking shots, unless you want the distorted effect, don’t use a wide angled lens. There are other ways to make an impact on a photo other than distortion and bright colors however. The simplest things are often the most effective.

Another interesting thing hat can be done is taking a photo of the baby while they are doing one of the many strange poses or facial expressions that they are famous for. Or bring in the use of mirrors and blurred backgrounds, both of which work very well in highlighting a baby’s possible worldview.

Creating A Space – Baby’s Can Call Their Own

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Nothing compares to the happiness and joy that the parents feel with the arrival of their baby into their home. And because every nook and cranny in their house is a reflection of themselves, their moods and personality, the baby’s room should ultimately be an expression of the delight a child brings to them.

With this in mind, contemplating on the design and decoration of your baby’s room entails a lot of preparation and right choices. Below are some helpful tips to aid you in attaining a beautiful and safe baby room.

Baby-proofing the nursery room

The most important thing to consider first before decorating your baby’s room, is the safety and protection of your child in his own abode. Before anything else, you have to make sure to do a thorough safety check. Inspect furniture for any sharp edges, take away toys that your child can put in his mouth, and chuck linens that can potentially cause allergies and itching. Baby-proofing should always be a top priority in any space at home.

Remember too, that while you may want your infant to stay that way forever, kids do grow up at a rapid pace. Incorporating permanent fixtures in the room can easily become dull and tiresome. It is best to consider pieces and designs that can weather the growing up years without losing their appeal to your child’s eyes and taste.

Fun decor ideas

Having a nursery gives your baby her first experience at having her very own space, so you have to make sure you decorate his room with fun, attractive, and informative decors that would help in the shaping of his mind.

Don’t over-decorate your baby’s room, it would look stuffy and your baby may not feel very comfortable at all with the overwhelming decors around him. Use ordinary objects as decorating tools. Go for fun, flexible pieces you don’t have to commit to.

You should also invest in storage made for grown-ups for flexibility purposes that could be very beneficial to the both of you. Also, you need to stay low. Meaning, you should add a row of low shelves around your baby’s room to give him easy access to his things. Remember that your kid’s line of sight is much lower than yours. Thus, he has a different perspective of his space. Keep his toys and books on low storage units so they’re always within reach.

When it comes to bed, you don’t need to buy a child-sized bed when your little one graduates from using his crib. You can opt for an adult bed, as long as you install safety rails around its perimeter. It is a good long term investment that won’t have you buying new mattresses and sheets every few years.

Music and Learning = Smarter Babies

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Music stimulates children’s thinking skills, encourages creativity, and develops musical ability. Introduce music to babies by singing, humming, and chanting. It doesn’t matter if the songs are sung off-key; babies love hearing sounds, especially those made by their parents. They are also riveted by rattles and other noisemakers.

Toddlers can already clap and dance to music, so introduce them to nursery rhymes and songs they can dance to. This helps develop their motor and verbal skills.

Preschoolers love musical instruments like xylophones, drums, toy keyboards and guitars. Musical books and CD’s would also be greatly appreciated.

Experimenting with sounds stimulates a child’s brain. For example, parents can make a guitar out of rubber bands and a cereal box. Just stretch rubber bands of different thickness around the box and pluck to create sounds.

Musical toys, as we all know are very popular for the children. MUsical toys vary from those that produce soothing sounds to relax your baby’s mind, to noise-making variety that interests the child. These toys are also designed to fit in any age group.

In newborn babies, crib mobiles are a big hit because of the soothing sounds it create that help ease and relax the baby especially during sleeping time. These mobiles are also fun to look at because of the colorful figures attached to it.

Baby rattles are also perfect as musical toys because of the varied sounds it create whenever the baby take a grasp of it and start shaking it.

Musical toys are very important for the child’s development. These toys hone the child’s senses and ability to create and appreciate music in any form. These toys are specifically designed to entertain the child, at the same time educate him about music.

They are designed to entertain babies in musical ways that encourage speech development, motor and skills development, and deep appreciation to the music world. Learning music is very vital for the child’s proper growth development.

There are many ways to introduce music to your child. From toys, to musical CD’s, and just by simply singing to him a beautiful song, your baby can be exposed and learns to appreciate music in his life. With introducing and learning music, you are opening the world to him in new and exciting ways.

Quality Time With Your Kids

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

We love to spend time with our children and bond with them everyday. But as career-oriented and working moms, we rarely have the chance to do so because of our hectic schedules. We long to be with them for every minute of their lives, but we simply can’t. We just can’t find much available time to do so.

Because of our hectic schedule, we are already tired and exhausted whenever we go home. And one of the quickest and simplest form of bonding we could give our children is watching television together. Just by doing so, we think that we have already spent time with them. Watching tv is our way of bonding with them, at the same time, we get to relax our tired body.

Watching tv can be fun, but letting your children watch too often for you to spend time with them is not quality time. While watching tv can be educational especially if they are watching informative programs, too much of it is not a healthy bonding for you and your children.

TV can give useful information, but toddlers learn best by actual touching, tasting, smelling, hearing, and seeing. We say it is educational, but if we are perfectly honest with ourselves, the real reason we allow our children boob tube time is that it is convenient. The colorful, flashing images grab their attention and glue them to their seats. We get to cuddle them without worrying about keeping them busy. TV gives us the luxury of low-maintenance quality time.

But most of the time, despite the convenience, we still feel bad about boob tube bonding. So we often rationalize- we think of the hundred and one things that our precocious children are learning from TV. Unfortunately, there is increasing evidence of the harmful effects of TV on little children.

TV does not allow experimentation- they passively watch the images and absorb pre-processed facts. They can’t interact with it, and because there is no interaction, there is no feedback. A habit of passive learning dampens curiosity and weakens problem-solving skills. Children grow used to being given information, not actively processing experiences for hidden facts and concepts.

The bottom line is, you don’t need energy to watch TV, but you do need to invest time in support activities to glean any educational value from what your toddler watches. A 30-minute Barney tape on numbers has to be accompanied by games and activities where you and your children learn to count together.

Having quality time with your kids does not rely solely on watching TV. There are a lot of fun and educational activities that you could do together to strengthen your bond. Playing is one important bonding activity that you could share with your children.

There are a lot of educational toys available in stores and even online that are great for your children. For your toddlers, Ride-on toys and pedal cars are a sure hit to them. Toddlers love toys that are mobiles. You can bond with them by teaching them how to play and ride on those toys. Its double the fun and enjoyment, plus educational benefits that could help your children in their learning stage.

Being tired and exhausted is not a reason to disregard your time with your children. Spending quality time with them is the most important aspect of a good parenting.
