Positive Focus Vs Negative Focus

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Look in any bookshop at their Best Seller list today, and you’ll see a mass of autobiographies of the rich and famous. From empire builders to glamour models to footballers, they all tell a different story, but each has a thread in common – they focused on the positives and overcame adversity.

That is the way of the world; to achieve in life we must allow positive reasons why ‘we can’ to flood our consciousness, and drown out negative reasons why we can’t.

For the student, this attitude to studying is paramount. To successfully complete a training program, the biggest tool in a trainee’s workbox is a positive mindset. An optimistic approach brings about all sorts of possibilities, circumstances, answers and opportunities to achieve. By contrast, a negative outlook thwarts creativity and blocks our learning receptors.

This is because of our Reticular Activation System – a mechanism that automatically tells our brain what to focus on. Over our lives, we’ve experienced a huge number things that no longer remain in the forefront of our minds – the majority of what we’ve learned moves from our conscious mind to our sub-conscious mind, a kind of cupboard that stores all our past beliefs and knowledge.

When we attempt to do something consciously, our Reticular Activation System (RAS) will go through our sub-conscious mind for any associated information it holds, and bring it into focus. As we’re walking down a road, we’re made aware only of things that are relevant to us – anything else is just background noise.

This means that if our conscious mind has been regularly sending messages that are upbeat and positive to our sub-conscious mind, then that’s what it will transfer back. But if our sub-conscious has been given loads of downbeat and defeatist messages, then that’s equally what will be sent back.

Achievers, it appears, are able to manipulate the messages streamimg through to their sub-conscious minds. They do this by choosing the exact messages the conscious mind sends and deliberately programming their RAS. As such, it’s an essential tool for achieving goals, as the sub-conscious mind can’t tell the difference between real or imaginary events.

In other words, as it believes what it’s told, we need to create a very specific picture of our goal in our conscious mind. The RAS will then pass this on to our subconscious – which will then help us achieve the goal. It does this by bringing to our attention all the relevant information which otherwise might have remained as ‘background noise’.

Napoleon Hill once wrote that we can attain any realistic goal if we keep that goal clearly in our mind, and stop allowing any negative thoughts about it. If we keep thinking that we can’t achieve a goal, of course, our subconscious will help us not to achieve it.

5 Simple Ideas for Holiday Shopping

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This Christmas parents are looking for great presents for their kids. However the economic downturn and the normal holiday rush can make holiday shopping difficult this year. However, shoppers in 2009 now have more options than ever before for holiday shopping. So as a parent it is important for you to be aware of them so you can be better prepared as you do your holiday shopping. Here are some of the options available to you this holiday shopping season.

First you can shop online. This allows you to avoid the holiday crowds and allows you to do your holiday shopping from the comfort of your own home. All you do is pay online and give your home address and within a reasonable amount of time you will be able to receive the items you purchased. There are also other benefits that come with online shopping. There is the fact that you can simultaneously look for an item at several different stores without having to walk from one end of a mall to another. You will be able to see what each retailer is selling the item for and make a value judgment. You can also look up reviews on presents so you can not only choose that particular toy your son or daughter wanted, but also find the best brand at the lowest price.

One of the good things that have come out of the current recession is the return of layaway. As consumer spending has fallen, retail stores are being hit pretty hard. This has made them reinstitute 0 interest payment plans such as layaway. This is great because you are paying toward purchasing a toy or some other item over a period of time. This is great for people who fear that they would be tempted to use the money they save for the holidays for other needs. Best of all there is no threat to your credit history with increased credit card payments in January.

Rebates and coupons should be your new best friends. These are store and manufacturer discounts you can use to make the presents you purchase more affordable. The trick is to do your research. For example many coupons can now be obtained online. All it takes is some detective work. Another good source of information is neighbors and family members. So use your research and connections to find great deals in time for holiday shopping.

As trite as it may sound the catalogs and other publication that stores put out are also good sources of information. First off you will need to know what your kids want. These publications allow you to sit down with your kids have them point out what they want for Christmas. If you have younger children a great idea is to make a picture wish list. You just cut out the toys your kids pointed out paste to paper. A good idea is to pay attention to the online product number so you can easily find the product online and purchase it there, this good for the really popular toys

Another great option is to order something that will help your kid believe in Santa Clause. There are some great online stores that offer services that do just that. One service that is sure to be popular is Santa Letters. This allows your kids to actually get a reply from Santa for their letters. You can customize the letters with your children’s good deeds and their wish list so they will know that Santa read their letters. This is sure to be a popular tradition in your family. The best part is that it is affordable for even the strictest family budget.

Create magic in your child’s eyes with our Santa letters & Santa phone calls. EZSantaLetters.com offers fully personalized Santa letters and 15 pre-written Santa letters. All letters are postmarked from the North Pole and will definitely put a smile on your child’s face.

Facts About Watering Grass That Will Make You Go Hmmmm!

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Question: How much should I water my grass exactly?

Innocent enough question. But one with a myriad of answers really. With the best one being “It depends.” Let me explain.

The rule of thumb you see most often shared is to water an inch a week. But what happens is that rules of thumb are all too son taken to be iron clad rules by some. Chiseled in stone as it were and to be adhered to at all costs.

But how often you need to water and how much depends on a variety of factors. So one can’t simply mutter a rule of thumb and feel that covers it. Because it doesn’t.

For starters you need to know how often it rains. Pretty obvious, yes. But I had to point it out.

A related point is it’s best to water only when you have to. Is your grass looking rather limp? Stressed? Are your foot steps clearly seen> All suggest your grass isn’t springing back like it should. If so it’s not a stretch to say you should be watering.

Watering also comes down to the type of grass we’re talking about. Some varieties will need more – other less.

Your mower setting comes into plays as well. The shorter you cut your grass the more water it will likely take to maintain a decent looking lawn. Plus whether you bag the clippings or not matters too.

“How’s your roots?” is another consideration. You want the roots of your lawn to be deep because that means you’ll have less need to water as often. The way to get that is to water deeply and infrequently. Which the one inch a week rule supporters would support wholeheartedly. Just keep in mind water that soaks in beyond the root zone does your grass absolutely no good whatsoever.

Grass Truth: The height of the blade affects how deep the roots are. You will find the longer the blades the farther down into the soil the roots will be found.

It’s also wise to let the top of your root zone to dry out. Doing so helps keep diseases at bay, weed seeds from germinating, and causes shallow rooted weeds to die off.

Another thing to consider is thatch build up. Is it thick and preventing good water penetration or what?

Finally you’re got flow rate. Or putting water down so fast it runs off. That doesn’t help.

You see? There’s more to this than mindlessly muttering the one inch a week rule over and over like some magic chant. These think abouts, when thought about and applied, can produce a greener, thicker stand of grass with less water in your yard too.
